Monday, April 23, 2007 I was thrilled to finally see Loreena McKennitt in Concert. If you are not familiar with her music I have several of her songs in my playlist on the bottom of this page, just click on them to enjoy her music. Below is what I shared on my blog at Covenspace:
Loreena McKennitt has to be the most amazing performer I have seen in concert. Her talent is just beyond words. I have been a fan since day one and have all her recordings and have watched all the PBS concerts and stay updated with her official site QUINLAN ROAD.
My admiration of this artist grew 3 fold after last night's concert. Her crystal clear voice inspires and haunts you. Her talent on multiple instruments seems so effortless for her. AMAZING, MOVING, BREATH TAKING, I could go on and on. I think you get the picture. The concert lasted 2 1/2 hours and included 2 encores. Other than a 15 minute intermission, she and her extraordinary group of talented performers were on stage the whole time. The smiles on their faces and the ease with which they all performed showed that these folks love their music and love sharing it with others.
The concert was a mix of old and new music. I shared with my husband how consistent with the recordings the performances were. The one exception was the performance of what seemed to be a longer version of Huron 'Beltane' Fire Dance. No complaints about that! From time to time she would tell about her travels and the backgrounds of the songs. The stage was set with the flavor of her album art from Ancient Muse. Lanterns hung from ceiling and the lighting was great and added to the mood of each song.
She is still on tour in North America. If you are near where she is performing I would really urge you to go and enjoy a concert I am sure you will not soon forget! This was an early birthday gift (it's not till Sept!) from my husband. I think he will have a hard time outdoing this gift! I know several times sitting there I felt like I had to pinch myself. I kept telling myself, I REALLY AM WATCHING LOREENA McKENNITT PERFORM LIVE! What a dream fulfilled! I have wanted to see her for years!

An all time favorite is High Spirits with Peter O'Toole, made in the 80's before a lot of it's stars were known.
